“Figures, of course, were moulded. Where they are hollow the join marks can be seen easily, though this is far from being the case with the nearly solid ones. We cannot be sure how much finishing off work was done by the modeling tool, but the existence of identical figures of high quality induces the belief that the moulds themselves must have achieved a high excellence.”
Blanc de Chine, with its exotic appeal due to form and glaze, adorned traditional country house collections predominately throughout the 18th century, but remains in production today. The seminal book on Blanc de Chine porcelain, Donnelly’s work is considered the main reference on the subject.
