Plates shown here reproduce, as accurately as possible, twelfth and thirteenth century stained glass windows, selected from among the handsomest of cathedrals such as Chartres, Le Mans, Poitiers, Sens and Bourges—the aim to simply to show the exceptional artistic merit of these windows with regard both to color and composition, and to indicate how stained glass evolved in form, design and coloration, while the technique remained the same.
