“It was in the late summer of 1817, on the Hampstead Road, that Brown first met Keats, and ‘inwardly desired his acquaintanceship, if not his friendship'. Keats was twenty-one; he was drawn to the wise and genial man of thirty. They were soon 'very thick'; and, in the summer of 1818, they left together on a walking tour of the Lake District and Highlands.”

Richardson’s album is not only an engaging picture-book, it is an essential companion for the serious reader. It is perhaps the most original contribution to be made to Keats studies since the publication of Fanny Brawne's letters in 1937.
